Although it was blistering cold outside, a mere wind chill factor of 20 degrees, the welcome from the staff, students and friends of Sunnymead warmed my heart. A big thank you goes out to Ms. Michele Jones as she ushered me into the building where I could get set up.
It didn’t take long for the rest of the crowd to warm up once they arrived in the school cafeteria and auditorium. Fun was a tasty part of the menu. “How many of you like eating birthday cake?” I do believe every hand went up!
As a guest for Black History Month, I delighted in educating the students about cultural birthday traditions all around the world. Kids seemed excited to learn about Juan from Mexico and Tommy from Germany. “Let’s skip everybody, Alles Gute Zum Geburstag! Happy Birthday to you!”
At the end of the day, it was time to meet, greet and sign autographs for some of the students of Sunnymead Elementary. Thanks so much for loving Shyann! “You were very good!” Little Sharon told me. “Thanks, so were you!” I smiled back at her. They were all so wonderful.
A heart felt thank you goes out to Dr. Tammy Jenkins, Principal of Sunnymead for bringing myself and the It’s Your Birthday Shyann! presentation to her school in celebration of Black History Month. I had a fabulous time.
