Mr. Caparoso, Principal at Woodfern Elementary, added my presentation of “It’s Your Birthday Shyann! to his school calendar in celebration of Black History Month. He and his staff were wonderful and very accommodating as I set up to perform. Thanks for making me feel so welcome!
It gave me great pleasure to read for them and introduce them to Shyann and her message of acceptance of all people and cultures through the celebrating of ones birthday. “Welcome, welcome, welcome! And please do come in,” I began reading to the children.
They all sat at attention, but it wasn’t long before I had the full auditorium standing on their feet and dancing! From the front to the back, they danced in unison and shared lots of laughs while doing so. Laughter is good. Sometimes, I made them laugh. And sometimes, they made me laugh.
At the end of the presentation, the students were ushered back to their classes. But that didn’t stop us from delivering all the books the kids ordered. Since I was still touring in the area of Hillsborough, NJ, I returned to do a meet and greet. They received their autographed signed copies of It’s Your Birthday Shyann! and Shyann I Am!
